Two of my gifts include “perseverance” and “resilience”, which explains well why I’m such a believer in the power of  “vision” for myself and my clients.

Deanna Maoi points out in her blog “The Importance of Vision for Entrepreneurs” that vision:

• keeps you going when you are tired, but not even close to your goals,
• reminds you there is a point, an end insight, and if you keep “pushing” you’ll get there,
• keeps you from giving up on your dreams.

1. MAKE SURE YOU ARE CREATING NOT JUST A VISION STATEMENT, BUT YOUR HOLY SPIRIT-INSPIRED VISION STATEMENT.

I specifically work with my clients to help them tap into their “Holy Spirit-inspired” vision.

The depth of your prayer and sacramental life and your willingness to submit to God’s authority in your life impacts the degree to which you can discover your Holy Spirit-inspired vision.

When you are in obedience to God in all areas of your life, then your “dreams” become more aligned with God’s vision and purpose for your life. Your Holy Spirit-inspired vision supernaturalizes your “dreams” into the bigger picture of God’s plan for you in the scheme of humanity.

2. WITH OBEDIENCE AND SURRENDER TO GOD’S WILL, YOU ACHIEVE YOUR VISION WITH GREATER EASE.

When I am functioning from the place of my Holy Spirit-inspired vision, I don’t experience “pushing” to get there. Getting there is more about letting go and surrendering and receiving God’s great blessings, wisdom, and guidance. With a Holy Spirit-inspired vision, you experience ease and the pieces seem to fall into place.  

The journey towards a Holy Spirit-inspired vision is without bumps and difficulties. But there is a sense of peace surrounding each step, even the ones that involve suffering.

3) DON’T HIDE FROM GOD OR YOURSELF; LAY IT ALL OUT THERE.

Many people don’t benefit from the persevering power of vision because they don’t take the time to explore what they deeply desire. Deanna Maoi points out that the simple act of writing one is of the benefit itself. It causes you to sit down and think about what you REALLY want out of your business and your life.

To ensure you move in a solid direction towards God’s will, take the time to write and give yourself permission, to be honest about what you want. Many Christians suppress their true desires out of the judgment of them as being dark. But God knows those desires anyway, so work with them.  

4)  SEEK GODLY COUNSEL AND VALIDATION IN PRAYER TO YOUR INITIAL VISION STATEMENT.

A critical next step for Christian vision work is to receive guidance and accountability from good Godly counsel and take your vision to prayer. Once you are honest with yourself about your deepest desires, you may think they are “wrong” if they don’t seem “Christian” enough. Others may deceive themselves to think that what they desire is holy when they are really very ego-driven and self-serving. Both of these issues can be resolved with a solid network of individuals you’ve given permission to help you be accountable and give you honest feedback.  

I have always advocated having an all-encompassing vision statement.  Yet, I do agree when Deanna Maoi encourages you to keep your vision statement fairly short and concise. A too cumbersome or wordy vision statement confuses the brain and dilutes your priorities.

5) KEEP YOUR HOLY SPIRIT VISION TOP OF MIND

She also advocates keeping your vision statement top of mind with some kind of visual representation of it where you will see it on a daily basis. This too is another great technique that compliments the way God made us. The more we work with how our brains are designed the more effective we will be in living our vision.

Your vision statement is the guidepost that puts all of the ups and downs you’ll encounter into perspective. It helps you successfully ride the waves of life that are a natural part of being human.
