Men in Black

 In Faith

With all the hullabaloo over the Constitutionality of Obamacare in the chamber of the Supreme Court this week, many have focused on the “men and women justices in black”. But on Holy Thursday we honor another prestigious group of men in black as we celebrate the day when Christ instituted the priesthood.

These men in black feed us the Eucharist, absolve our sins in Confession, give us new life in Baptism and father us spiritually. What an accurate image to see the priest washing the feet of his parishioners during the Maundy Thursday service.

As prime targets of the enemy because of their spiritual power to bring great numbers of souls to Christ, our priests need our prayers. Our priests need us to assist them in their ministry. Our priests need to be included in our lives through social invitations. Our children deserve to connect with priests. We need to encourage vocations by speaking respectfully of the priesthood.

Never take priests for granted; remember…no priests…no Eucharist.

Catholic Women’s Guide to Healthy Relationships: Do one thing today to let a priest know how much you appreciate him or to promote a vocation to the priesthood.
