TRUST in the Restoration of Order (Part 1)

 In Vocation

I am on the third day of my four-year-old, eight-year-old, and 10-year-old being out of school for the holiday break. I am distracted with work writing deadlines in preparation for my assistant taking her upcoming maternity leave.

The more time we spend in the house and the more I focus on my work, the more of a disaster the house becomes. There is ground in dry cereal in the family room. I am looking at a blue, 1/8-full Gatorade bottle sitting on a kid table, waiting for someone to knock it over and turn the carpet into the same strong royal blue color of my Benjamin’s upper lips whenever he drinks it.

There are books, clothes, shoes strung around the house. I am tripping over everything else, and we still can’t find my Nook Color, which the kids borrowed. When I went to check on the kids, Benjamin, the four-year-old, was coasting his tricycle down our driveway and right into the street and Gianna was wearing flip flops in the cold fall Kansas weather.

Oh, yes, this is lovely, isn’t it?

But there is more. In less than 24 hours, I have over 20 relatives coming over to our home for a Thanksgiving meal and I have not even been to the grocery store. I am scheduled to see clients in the evening.

Come on, admit it…you are dying to trade lives with me.

Don’t you love the vocation of being a wife and mother?

It is at these times that I have the tendency to get very compulsive. But I have created an acronym to help get me through everything in a more balanced way. It is TRUST: Truth Revealed Under Stressful Times.

In the next blog, I will show you how using “TRUST” has helped me deal with the unpredictable, chaotic, and frequent lack of control that often accompany our vocation as wife and mother.

Catholic Women’s Guide to Healthy Relationships Tip: Embrace your entire vocation including the occasional chaos and overload.
